Keelan Kells ✉
Keelan is a litigation lawyer practicing in Ottawa, Ontario, with a focused expertise in civil matters including construction law, contract disputes, bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings, employment law, and corporate law.
Called to the Ontario Bar in 2025, Keelan brings fresh perspective and dedication to complex construction disputes, lien claims, and a broad range of civil litigation matters. Keelan's practice encompasses the full spectrum of Construction Act and contract dispute proceedings, from prompt payment disputes to breach of contract claims, commercial disputes, tort claims, and other civil matters, always prioritizing strategic and cost-effective solutions for his clients.
Keelan earned his law degree from the University of Ottawa, where he graduated Cum Laude. During his time in law school, Keelan co-founded the uOttawa Space Law Society; won the Centre for Environmental Law and Global Sustainability Essay Contest in Environmental Law; and worked as a Legal Clinic student and intern for Ecojustice. Keelan works annually as a Volunteer Judge for the Nelligan Law 1L Moot Court Competition where he helps first year law students at the University of Ottawa develop their oral advocacy skills.
Prior to law school, Keelan obtained a B.Sc. Honours Specialization in Geology with Distinction from Western University. Keelan primarily worked on research in the Planetary and Economic Geology fields, and has been both acknowledged and cited in peer-reviewed journal publications. Throughout this time, Keelan also led field research teams in Northern Ontario and worked as a science communicator.
In his youth, Keelan spent his summers working as a Valve Technician at his dad’s valve repair and automation business. Keelan worked closely with various trades servicing industries spanning from oil and gas to food and drink.
Keelan’s approach combines thorough legal research with scientific methodism and a practical understanding of construction industry dynamics, ensuring clients receive advice that is both legally sound and commercially viable.
Outside of law, Keelan enjoys reading science-fiction novels, playing hockey, and rooting for the Edmonton Oilers.

Contributed to a publicly traded corporation’s successful defence against a $4 million commercial arbitration claim involving the supply of commodities.
Acted for a contractor in multiple construction lien matters, including claims exceeding $6 million.
Acted for a developer in a Provincial Offences Court matter.
Successfully negotiated a settlement between an employer and employee at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
Contributed to the successful appeal of a residential construction warranty decision.
Acted for a union in a certification application.
Acted for a creditor in a complex Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act proceeding involving a limited partnership.
